Dr Virginia ReidDoctors for the Environment Australia / Appletree Family Practice
Dr Virginia Reid is an experienced GP from Newcastle and also a member of Doctors for the Environment Australia.
Graduating from University of Newcastle in the first intake of medical students some thirty six years ago she has worked in several countries and recently as a District Medical Officer in central Australia. Currently she is working in Newcastle but has done several country locums where she has experienced the devastating effect of unprecedented heat and drought on farming communities. DEA, of which she is a member ,was founded in 2001, and has a simple mission; ‘Healthy Planet, Healthy People’. DEA uses compelling scientific evidence to demonstrate the vital role of clean air and water, biodiverse natural places and a stable climate, in maintaining health and well being for our species. We raise the alarm and act when public health is threatened by environmental problems such as climate change, air pollution, fossil fuel impacts and deforestation. A national Scientific Advisory Committee of acknowledged scientific experts supports DEA’s work. We are independent from political parties and corporate donors. |
