Kelly HansenNova for Women and Children
Kelly Hansen has been the CEO of Nova for Women and Children for over a decade. Nova is a Specialist Homelessness Service operating in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. Nova provides a suite of services for women and children escaping Domestic and Family Violence, at risk of homelessness or who are homeless.
Kelly has worked with women and families in the sector for over 30 years in both support worker and management roles. She is passionate about social justice and addressing inequality for all disadvantaged and vulnerable groups, but has a particular interest on gender inequality, domestic violence and the vulnerability of older women. Kelly currently serves as Chairperson of the Newcastle Poverty Action Alliance and is a Board member of the Australian Alliance to End Homelessness and of Homelessness NSW. Kelly works tirelessly to ensure that the Hunter region has current information on all issues concerning the SHS sector, including policy changes that would affect Nova’s service delivery. Kelly also ensures the Hunter has information on the diverse barriers for different cohorts in this specific region and to assist in informing Homelessness policies. Kelly is considered and expert in her field and is regularly called upon to talk with local politicians or to the media. Kelly is an advocate for change for the Specialist Homelessness Service sector where most are doing the impossible within a crisis driven and under-resourced field.
