Heather Stevens is the manager of the Climate Change and Sustainability team at the City of Newcastle. She has worked across all three tiers of government in climate mitigation and adaptation and has a PhD in the effects of extreme heat on interpersonal violence.
Abstract City of Newcastle's Climate Action Plan In 2020, the CoN adopted the Newcastle Climate Action Plan 2021-2025 which set goals and priorities over the following 5 years to achieve net zero emissions by 2030. The climate action plan aligns with the Newcastle 2040 it's our future: Community Strategic Plan.
The City of Newcastle has set the goal that by no later than 2030, the Council will reach Net Zero Emissions for its operations. To achieve this goal the Climate Action Plan is structured around four themes:

Best Practice Energy Water and Waste Efficiency
Sustainable Supply Chain
Zero Emissions Transport
The plan also included the aspirational Newcastle Community GHG emissions targets of a 30% reduction in city-wide emissions by 2025 and a 100% reduction in city-wide electricity emissions by 2030.
